Does anyone remember way back in 1992 when Marisa Tomei won the Academy Award for My Cousin Vinny? A lot of people (critics & haters) were all up in arms about it, because apparently My Cousin Vinny wasn’t fancy pants enough to win an Oscar. Apparently no one who acted in it was worthy of such a prestigious acting honor as an Academy Award. Obviously, the majority of the Academy disagreed with this notion. As well they should have. Damn, girl kicked ass in that movie. And in several movies since.
I’ve seen her a couple of times on stage and this is one babe who can seriously act. Bless her hot, talented ass.
You’re right about that Oscar. Totally deserved. I watched that broadcast and I remember hearing the gasp. I was all “the hell, people?”
Gwyneth Paltrow winning over Cate Blanchett in 1998(I think), now, that merited a gasp.
Anyway, Marisa Tomei is one of the reasons why George Costanza was/is my favorite.
I saw her in 2007’s “Before The Devil Knows Your Dead”. Boy, that movie sure starts with a bang. Right off the bat, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is socking it to her as the opening credits are rolling. They’re so naked in that scene, they don’t even have a context to hide behind. Unfortunately, you see too much of him and not enough of her, but you gotta take what you can get.
She looks fantastic and can really act too. Judging her by My Cousin Vinny is wrong. She’s done much better work in much better movies and has done it looking much better than most actresses.
I like that she works in a lot of films few get to see and that she doesn’t mind taking off her clothes, even at 43. She is talented, cares about her work, and -oh yeah- damn sexy. Probably sexier at 43 (AND yet still cute) than ever.
Another great choice.
