Riley’s Five Favorite Christmas Specials – #5
Ah, Christmas – the time of year when television becomes somewhat worth watching on a regular basis. Because I don’t care what the cool kids think. Christmas specials rock the socks off we sensitive types. They are all so filled with hope and love to the point of being ridiculously cheesy. What can you do but be smitten?
So here are my fave Christmas specials, counting down. (List subject to change, but has remained fairly steady for the past three or so Christmas seasons, so we’ll just go with it.)
Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas – This was my absolute favorite Christmas special growing up, and though my tastes have changed, its still in the top five. Jim Henson’s take on “The Gift of the Magi” is sweet enough to make sensitive teeth ache, but its got one kickass rock song by the Riverbottom Nightmare Band.
I adored this one when I was little, too, but didn’t enjoy it quite as much when I rewatched it a few years ago.
I bought this for the boys this year…they pointed out to me that they could see the strings on the puppets-aahh, technology.
