What happened was this. We had Bonnie Raitt tickets for San Diego and planned to spend a few days soaking up good tunes and Vitamin D, while partaking of the perfecto teas at The Tea Pavilion in Balboa Park. Then, Turkish Airlines went crazy let’s-break-into-the-U.S.-market fire sale, offered ridiculous roundtrip prices, and I was given…
Three Days of Fringe and A Camden Pre-Show
I have wanted to go to Edinburgh Fringe for so long, I kind of can’t believe I’ve actually done it. Even more, I can’t believe it was everything I expected it to be, plus some. When Fringe is in Edinburgh, Fringe practically is Edinburgh. It’s everywhere, seeming to sprawl across the entire city. The sheer scope and layout of…
Next Stop Oslo
Just before going to sleep last night, at about one a.m. Central Time, it occurred to me it was my last full day in the U.S. for at least seven and a half months. That means no Whole Foods with seed bread, or car that waits in the driveway for whenever I decide to use it,…
Some Things I Saw on August 16, 2008 (or… my personal tribute to Athalia, OH)
Do not be fooled. The ride from Huntington, West Virginia to Syracuse, Meigs County, OH does NOT follow the Dueling Banjo route. There is no such thing as the Dueling Banjo route, and just because that particular tune plays repetitively in your head from the time you get off the interstate until the time you…
I Went to Savannah and All I Got Was This Stupid Tea
We cultivate our own happiness, don’t we? That’s what all the self-help books say – tend to the happiness within one’s self – and it must be fairly decent advice, because, if I have learned anything from this life, it’s that happiness can never be found without. Of course, there are things in life that…

I almost choked when I read Allentown – as I live about 45 minutes away in the Scranton area. Upside, it’s an easy trip to new york – buses and trains are uber cheap if you don’t want to drive. Downside, farms. And things close early. But I hope you enjoy Pennsylvania!
Cool. We looked in Scranton. We are definitely looking forward to the short drive/travel into New York and Philly being less than an hour away. Thanks for the welcome.
I’m sorry people suck, but welcome back to the East Coast.
Are you seriously moving to Allentown? I live in Allentown. No fuckin way. Too weird. Well we can have a mini VS convention..lmao
I cracked up when I read Allentown. I swear it’s a west coast move east coast thing. Two years ago when I was moving from Portland, OR I moved to Bethlehem (just east of Allentown) because it was the most affordable place I could find.
I then moved out here to Chicago.
Not anything against the area… just, I missed being in a city.
My suggestion for going to the city would be either to bus it (about $20 and two hours) or to drive to Harrison, NJ and take the PATH in. Gross, but well… it is Harrison. 🙂
Good luck in A-town. It is less smoggy, at least.
