My advice, should you choose to accept it, move to an apartment closer to ground level. That way should you actually become trapped in your apt. you can possibly jump and not be damaged too severely. Or at the very least the firefighters will get to you first.
You could also sleep with a fire extinguisher under your bed.
Growing up we had fire alarms that were wicked sensitive to smoke and heat, to the point that the fire alarm going off meant “dinner’s ready”.
