House Arrest (12/35) – WMC fic

(December 22nd, Lindsay’s POV)

Lindsay barreled into the station with a plan, which was apparently obvious to Jacobi, because he immediately got to his feet and stood at attention.

“What’s up?” he asked when Lindsay landed by his desk.

“Are you ready for this?” she asked him in return.

“I don’t have to say I was born ready do I?”

“No. Cliché is bad.”

“Then, yes, I’m ready.”

“We’re going to do something amazing.”

“That is our M.O.”

“We’re going to do something exceptionally amazing. We’re going to catch the Ho-Ho-Ho Killer.”

“The what?” Jacobi asked with a laugh.

“I’s a nickname. Just go with it,” Lindsay responded, refusing to be sidetracked. “We’re going put him away.”

“Yeah, of course we are.”

“We’re going to do it before Christmas.”

Jacobi stared at her blankly for a moment. Then, his look changed into an expression Lindsay assumed most doctors at mental hospitals wore when dealing with a seriously sick patient.

“Okay,” Jacobi said finally. “Let’s go over the facts. The woman admitted that she’d had an affair with Santa Claus, who then proceeded to hack up her family when she decided to call it off. However, the name of this illicit lover was clearly bogus, because we can’t find a record of him existing anywhere. We don’t know who he is, where he is, or why he lied to her about his name, and he’s had almost a full week to get the hell out of Dodge. But we’re going to figure out who he is, find him, bring him in, and have enough evidence to convict him in three days?”

“Yeah. You up for it?”

“What the hell,” he responded with a shrug.

Lindsay smiled. This is why she loved the man.
