The sheer evil of these ideas is upsetting. Furthermore, two things have me completely puzzled. Why don’t more people link bullying to inequality (like in marriage) that adults are faced with? To me, a person cannot speak out against bullying and against gay marriage. Inequality is bullying by the law and just as wrong. And bullies, whether in the schoolyard or in politics, can’t be stopped until they are really held responsible.
The religion part? I’m just thinking of the HuffPost story about the baker who wouldn’t make a wedding cake for the lesbian couple, based on her so-called Christian beliefs. Every Christian should rage at that.
Jesus had a lot to say about hypocrisy and bigotry, but there is not quote to be found that says ‘go discriminate people because you don’t like the way they live’.
