Does Anyone Actually Work at Work?

May 5th, 2010 by Riley

I love the analytics tools available for websites that show not only how many visitors your site gets, but the percentage by sex and education and from where, either work or home, visitors are believed to be viewing the site. Of course, smart phones are blowing that analysis all to hell, but it still humors me how many people are totally not working at work. I know that I never did, but I also know that I have abandoned more jobs than most people.

So, now I’m curious, people with full-time jobs. How long have you had your job and how much time do you spend playing on the Internet?

I don’t have a full time job but thought I would reply anyway. I work 14 hours per week as an employee in parallel to my normal self employment (I am also a student). I have had this contract for a few months. I probably spend about a half hour per week doing personal internet stuff (eg check email and eBay) on work time.

It may be possible to pick whether I am visiting from work or home, except that I work at a uni so it would be difficult to distinguish between employees and students. I have no idea how they could guess age/gender.

    Welp…

I had my job for 2 1/2 years, and if I wasn’t watching a movie or TV show (on my laptop), I was on the internet, but nighttime security is a special scenario here.

I’ve been with my company since 2002 and well I probably spend about 2 hours a day on the internet reading personal emails, gossip blogs, failblog, failbook, mortgagefraudblog, etc. I spend another 1 hour a day talking to other coworkers about personal stuff… PS I hate my job :(
