So, the government is still mulling this idea over. I get the idea, I do. If the big three automakers fail, a tragic amount of jobs are lost, American production goes down, and our economy tumbles further into the crapper. The good news is, we are so far down in the pipes already, we don’t have far to fall. Hooray!
You know how the government basically told Chrysler, Ford and GM that they had to turn in a plan of action in order to collect their great big sums of money from taxpayers? Well they did. And it breaks down kind of like this -
GM needs roughly four million dollars to stay in business for the next month and twelve million for the year, and they would like an extra six million in money just in case they can’t make it into the black any time in the near future. Oh, and they have a brilliant way to save money. They plan to lay off thousands of employee, which will save millions of dollars. Am I confused here? Isn’t this what we are trying to avoid?
Chrysler needs less money, but still has no idea if they will be profitable any time soon.
Ford has ideas and is sure that they can become profitable again by 2011. Having recently attended the L.A. Auto Show, and stood in the presence of G’d out Mustangs, I agree that they just might be.
Face it folks. GM and Chryler are going out of business anyway. Let them go. If they get a bailout, it will just postpone the inevitable, waste a lot of money that this country desperately needs in other areas, and have the same outcome. So, I have an idea.
Let’s take the ultra-greedy GM, who is not only asking for an astronomical sum, but has been trying to get out of paying their retired employees their full pensions for some time. Let’s take half of that money and save it for GM’s retirees. Because when GM tanks, these people are screwed. They have already put in their time. Pay them fairly, you corporate fucks! Take the other half of the money, put it in a savings account, and guess what folks? It’s time for government-funded projects! Like for instance, bridges and dams across the country to prevent future failures. Or how about all of that green energy we’ve been promised? There is plenty to be done.
So, let’s hold back that GM and Chrysler money and use it for something else, like giving jobs to those people who are going to lose their auto industry jobs eventually, whether that be next month or next year. Or the social programs that will save all of our asses when our economy collapses completely.
Give Ford the money they’ve requested, and then, in 2011, when they are profitable again, make them pay it back… with interest. If they are not profitable by then, spankings all around.
