Clive Barker Gets the Shaft & Fans Get Shafted

August 3rd, 2008 by Riley

The Midnight Meat Train is bound to be chock full of blinky lights and sudden loud shrieks and bangs. Simply put, it’s a migraine waiting to happen. But it also stars Leslie Bibb, she of the number two spot on my favorite actress list. Therefore, it was my every intention to see it in a big theater, take the gamble, and pop a pill if need be.

But that may or may not happen.

See, The Midnight Meat Train, which has been well-reviewed by horror fans, has been given a tiny little release in cheap theaters across the country.

Why?

Who the hell knows. No one seems to be able to figure it out.

The knee-jerk question is “was it really that bad”? But, apparently it wasn’t. Well-reviewed, remember?

So what would make them jump ship and send it sailing into the sea of old screens, bad sound equipment, and non-stadium seating? Could it possibly be that Clive Barker has a contract with Lionsgate that promises him extra money once the film breaks a certain dollar amount in revenue?

Hmm.

I can’t say for sure… but if they are relegating a new, big-budget film to the little-budget box office without a first run in major theaters, you can bet that it’s for no good reason.
