So, in an effort to help out a little, because I am never around much to do so, and in an effort to give myself a modicum of time to make a wise decision about where to move next, because I am damn tired of moving and I need to make a choice that sticks, we are crashing at my sister’s house for a week or two.
My sister lives in the house that I grew up in and she’s made a lot of changes to the outside and alterations to the inside, but I still find it extraordinarily interesting that I always know where to find everything. Like, for instance, say I need some aluminum foil. It’s in the same cabinet that it was in when I was a wee lassie. Or a yardstick. Plastic bags. Cups. Silverware.
Staying with my sister also means staying with my nephews. They are just so damn cute…
…when they’re asleep.
No, in all seriousness, they’re good kids.
My favorite moment so far had to be this one.
Me: Hey, I know you were on our air mattress after I told you to stay off of it.
Noah: How did you know? (dramatic pause) I didn’t do that!
Oh Noah, Sweet Pea, must enroll you in a course on believable lying stat.
Oh, and the thirteen-year-old, Christian, that kid does some seriously impressive eating. It’s like watching an army mess hall take place within the confines of one person. We’re going to start conditioning him now for the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest next July 4th. He will so be the competitor.

This may sound silly, (hesitant sheepish look) but what is a ‘yardstick’, i’m not sure if it’s an american thing but the reference has come up a few times and it puzzles me. Hope you’re well.

You know in a previous post where you worried about having just one thought? Well, it would seem that I am just as bad as you if not worse. Cause now just seeing the word -yardstick- makes me go ‘there’. I may need an intervention.
Hey! So, apparently you had a birthday last weekend? Hope it was a great one!

Sorry May… Yes, yardstick is a fairly American reference. A yard is a unit of measure that’s a little bit shorter than a meter. Americans like to use it because apparently counting in units of ten is too simplistic and makes far too much sense for us
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Nikky. And hey, it’s okay that your mind goes there. There aren’t many better places for the mind to go.
