I spent a large part of yesterday printing up DVD labels and DVD case inserts. Two years later, I can finally say that the people in my movie will be getting their promised copies. I’m slow as molasses, but I always follow through.
Some days I still think I’d really like to have that twenty grand back so that I could do something else with it. Then I start watching it and realize that it’s good, and I also realize that investing twenty thousand dollars to learn what I learned was a considerably better deal than investing a hundred grand in film school. While I lack the contacts I wish I had to break into the film industry, I have developed some skills, and I would rather make good art than bad art that I get paid to make.
Who knows… maybe one day both can be true. The good art and the getting paid for it.
There’s no time like the present to try.
