Riley LaShea & the Bizarre Case of the FMBâ„¢

June 5th, 2008 by Riley

Oh, F me… I’m tired.

So, Monday night, once again, we made the two and a half hour trek to Cleveland for a concert. Why? Because it’s summer, it’s concert season, and this is what we do, even when we have to be at work in Columbus the next morning.

Anyway… It was so totally worth it.

Natasha Bedingfield, Kate Voegele, and The Veronicas. Everyone was fan-freakin’-tastic. Kate Voegele was the down moment. For me, personally. Don’t anyone get offended now. Though, I think it’s more due to be sandwiched between the other two acts than any deficiency on her own part. Natasha Bedingfield and The Veronicas were just amazing performers. Especially Natasha. Damn. She ranks right up there on the list of best concerts I’ve seen in my lifetime.

If you get the chance, go see. Kickass… truly. I promise.

But that’s all just back story. As per usual, I’ve come to complain.

You see, going to concerts is always a rough time of it for me. Due to my diminutive stature (5′3″), I have a strong preference for theater concerts where everyone remains sitting. I know that makes me boring, but it also let’s me see. Whenever I go to concerts that are either standing room only, or where I have floor seats and everyone stands (i.e. Madonna or Cher), I have to put forth a lot of effort to see very little. The evenings have a tendency to end up being more frustrating than fun for me.

And, as if my height doesn’t provide me enough of a challenge, I also somehow always end up directly behind the largest man in the entire room, either the guy who is seven feet tall or the guy who is seven feet wide. It happens without fail.

Monday night was no exception. It was me, Riley LaShea, and the case of the Fat Man Blocking (FMBâ„¢).

Now, I know what you are thinking. “Riley, you’re exaggerating. I’m sure that it doesn’t happen every single time, and I’m sure that there were worse views in the room than your view. You just think you had it bad.”

I anticipated this. That’s why I brought back photographic evidence. This was my view at the concert Monday night. No lie.

Yikes!!! So sorry. That is some bigass man-wall right there. At least the sound was good?

I can seriously sympathize - I’m shorter than you!

    you have the worst luck.

ok, i want you to write a post about some of the really good things in your life. consider it a challenge (hopefully not really).

    The sound was great.

Hence the ‘halfpint’ moniker, by chance?

That is quite the challenge. I’ll work on that.
