I thought there could never be a better day for running errands (grocery shopping, going to the mall, that kind of thing) than Super Bowl Sunday. On Super Bowl Sunday, both fans and non-fans of sports huddle around their television sets and make a huge thing out of a bunch of well-padded men writhing around together on Astro Turf. So many people do this that the roads and the stores are virtually empty. It really is a delightful day to shop.
Yesterday, Ohio State played Michigan. When we left the house, there was nary a car on the road. It was the most amazing phenomenon. We went to a couple of stores and got to park up front. Then, while we were in one of them, the game ended. Not only were there people lining the aisles in front of the ten big screen TVs broadcasting the game, and not only did they announce the final score for shoppers, but we were there for the cheer. OH - IO. Yep, right there in the middle of the store.
When we left the store, apparently people had decided it was, in fact, safe to leave the house, and the roads were freaking packed. What a difference an hour made. But while it lasted, it was almost like Heaven.
