Yesterday in… The Secret

October 21st, 2007 by Riley

So, there is much to write about from the book that is The Secret. But there has been so much that I have exclaimed “Holy crap, I have to blog about that,” about that I can’t remember half of it right now.  One thing I do remember from yesterday’s reading is that you should start small. Their idea of starting small was a cup of coffee. They wanted you to make it your goal to draw a cup of coffee to yourself your first day. Now, if I were, say, shipwrecked on a deserted island with nothing but coconut trees and a soft tropical breeze, bringing a cup of coffee into my domain might be a relatively impressive feat that would make me feel the power of “The Secret,” but seeing as how I live in a city with a Starbucks on every other corner and a Tim Horton’s (mmm!) on all the remaining ones, we’ll just pretend that I’m not that gullible.

But I am also not a hardcore skeptic. While all of the followers of The Secret are getting up in the morning and saying “thank” as one foot hits the floor and “you” as the other one does, I am not rolling out of bed, declaring “I don’t plan to believe in anything today.” I want to believe. Honestly. But you gotta give me something to believe in. I know that the things on my list thus far are tall orders, so I am going to start small, as recommended, with McDonald’s.

For those of you who have been living in a cave, or out of the country (lucky you!), you might not realize that Monopoly is happening at McDonald’s right now. I am putting out into the universe that I want to win some money. I want to win $500. Really, I’d like to win the million, but I’ve already stated on the list that I am not stingy and I don’t want to contradict myself. So, $500 then. To aid the universe in bringing me this windfall of $500, I am even going to buy things at McDonald’s and actually play. That’s all that I can do. The rest is up to the fates.
