In an effort to keep from getting on task with my new blog subject matter (which is Best Women: the greatest comedy never made, for those of you who have already forgotten), I managed to fill up this weekend with errand-running and a trip back in time. No, no, not in a time machine, you silly sci-fi geeks. This one’s for the Renaissance geeks.
That’s right. I attended my first Ren Fest today. It was interesting, but not fascinating. Fun, but not overwhelmingly. It was also hotter out than it has any right to be on October 14th. I can’t imagine today’s event is what all of the fuss is about, so I will likely try at least one more before I throw in my cloak and dagger.
I was disappointed in the pirate ship. It was smaller than I had hoped (things often are) and the pirates were more like these guys than the scallywags I was hoping to see. I was also really jonesing to see just one troll dining on ale and babies. Oh, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, how you have spoiled me so. Instead, I just got Ohioans in jerseys chomping on turkey legs. Still, it had its moments of merriment. And it really softened the blow that we got in for free : )
